Sarajevo Open Centre has been working with LGBTI community for many years by organizing different thematic gatherings. We will continue to organize events that we believe are important to LGBTI people and if you have an idea what kind of event you would like to see, you can contact Lejla – [email protected].

In January you had the opportunity to attend the International Festival of Queer Film Merlinka in Sarajevo that, besides the films, always offers different events, in order to provide a safe and relaxed atmosphere for socializing LGBTI+ people and our friends.

At the beginning of February, we organized the first Queer Quiz, and our goal is to hold this quiz continuously every third week. This quiz offers a possibility to gather and meet people and learn something new about activism in the world and in our country, rights, queer pop culture, literature and arts, symbols and so on. The atmosphere during the first quiz was really wonderful, and six teams struggled hard to win one of the first three places. Congratulations to the winners who received a super-colorful award and we invite you to join us on the next one which will be held on February 28th! Since in Sarajevo, but also in BiH as a whole, we do not have a place where to buy LGBTI souvenirs (flags, cups, symbols, etc.), we will make sure that our awards are just like that – queerish. On Saturday, February 17th, we organized a literary queer night. Writers Bojan Krivokapić and Dragoslava Barzut were our guests. At the end of the last year they published novels (Bojan – Proleće se na put sprema, Dargoslava – Papirne disko kugle), where the queer theme is also present. We talk and write so little about queer literature, and our goal is to provide space for such a conversation through our gatherings. With the moderation of Lejla Kalamujić and Lamija Begagić, they talked about their novels, about writing, and about life. One of the next quiz prizes will be their novels.
