Although in 2012 the Criminal Code of Serbia has regulated hate crime as aggravated circumstance, this legal institution is so far little used. Judicial institutions are poorly or not at all trained in the use of this particular criminal legislation in practice. Recognizing the gap between the adoption of the regulations and their implementation, Labris saw the need for a commitment to proper implementation of these laws.

Since 2005, May 17 has been marked as the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia. This day is marked in more than 130 countries in the world, and officially recognized by many countries and institutions, including the European Parliament.
Sarajevo Open Centre and the Judicial and Prosecutorial Training Centre of FBiH will organise a two-day training for judges and prosecutors in FBiH. The training will be held on the 9th and 10th of May, on the topic of Anti-discrimination and criminal law: combating discrimination and violence against LGBTI people.
