The second lecture within the third round of lectures and feminist discussions Somebody said feminism? addressed cyber feminism, with lecturers being Belma Kučukalić and Valentina Pellizzer (OneWorldPlatform / Web portal zenskaposla.ba). In this lecture titled 50 shades cyber feminism: Feminist principles of the Internet, Valentina and Belma explained how important the presence of girls and women is in ICT, referring to specific cases that show how the internet can be a place of freedom, but also of oppression.

Alternative Progress Report 2015 is being drafted!

Initiative for monitoring of European integration of BiH, which is coordinated by Sarajevo Open Centre, is an informal coalition of civil society organizations that will, by the end of May, publish Alternative report on the progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2015.

This was just another consecutive year where the women in Bosnia and Herzegovina were subjected to discrimination in exercising both their economic and social rights. In addition to the existing inequality, discrimination, gender-based and domestic violence, and social exclusion of women from marginalized groups (Roma, women from rural areas, LBT women, women with disability…etc), the women faced three key events in 2014: the floods in May, the issue of the right to maternity benefits and maternity leave, and general elections.

SOC: Gender equality must be a priority of the new Council of Ministers of BiH

Confirmation of the appointment of the Council of Ministers and the FBiH Government has shown a lack of commitment of political parties to gender issues. The Government of FBiH now has four female ministers, while the state government appointed two. 20 years of democratization has not led us to a significant progress, instead there is a presence of an invisible threshold, where women’s political participation does not exceed 20%.

After last year’s elections, Sarajevo Open Centre in cooperation with the Women’s Network of BiH began with advocacy activities towards achieving the target of 40% of women in the executive and legislative branches, according to the Law on Gender Equality. Saša Gavrić, director of the Sarajevo Open Centre, speaks about this initiative, the reactions of the government, future steps of the initiative, as well as the position of the politicians in the fight for gender equality and equal opportunities in politics.
