WikiGapBiH: Opportunity for filling the gap about important, inspiring, revolutionary Bosnian-Herzegovinian women on Wikipedia

In an effort to change the practice that most of the content published on Wikipedia about men is actually published by men, Sarajevo Open Centre has on March 7th, 2018, with the help of the Embassy of the Sweden in Bosnia and Herzegovina, organized WikiGapBiH – Edit-a-thon event. Both men and women from various fields of social life participated in the event, with one aim to expand the content and publish information about Bosnian-Herzegovinian women on Wikipedia.

WikigapBiH Edit-a-Thon, Sarajevo, Wednesday 7 March 2018

On the occasion of the 8 March, International Women’s Day, Sarajevo Open Centre will organise Edit-a-thon, in Networks, in cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden to Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), during which 15 volunteers, activists, women and men from public life, will create and edit Wikipedia with content on prominent BiH women.

Sarajevo Open Centre, as a feminist organisation that advocates full respect of human rights and social inclusion of LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans* and intersex) persons and women, organises a series of activities that will mark this significant day and that will draw attention of the public to the burning issues that regard gender equality in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Continued Swedish support for the next stage of inclusion for LGBTI and gender equality in BiH, support to Sarajevo Open Centre 2018-2020

The Embassy of Sweden today signed an agreement with Sarajevo Open Centre, on 22 February, in support of the organization’s Strategic Plan 2018-2020. Sarajevo Open Centre continues with its leading role in the struggle for human rights in BiH, with a special focus on LGBTI, women’s rights and gender equality. An additional support amounting to 4.8 MSEK (approx. 950.000 KM) has been allocated to SOC core programme 2018-2020.
