Calendar of Sarajevo Open Centre Activities in Honour of IDAHOBIT

During the month of May, the Sarajevo Open Centre celebrates an important date for the global LGBTIQ+ community: the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). May 17 is significant for LGBTI rights because it was on this date in 1990 that the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from its list at the 43rd World Health Assembly.

Many LGBTIQ+ people’s positions are still under threat, particularly due to denial of rights, violence and structural discrimination. BiH society must continue to respond openly to challenges in the fight against discriminatory practices, hatred and violence directed at LGBTIQ people in the public sphere. We hope to combat such harmful narratives and practices through various activities and events organised by the Sarajevo Open Centre in May, by giving space to content that promotes dignity, equal rights, and the life and culture of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and queer people.

We encourage all LGBTIQ people, as well as anyone else who is interested, to attend our events and celebrate the Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia!
