After police, judiciary is the next link in effective protection of LGBT human rights
Sarajevo Open Centre and Heinrich Boell Foundation, BH office, with the support of Centre for Judicial and Prosecutorial Training of FBiH (FBiH CEST) are organizing training for prosecutors and judges as a part of Coming out! Advocating promotion and protection of LGBT rights. The goal od the training is to present the existing legal mechanisms which have not been used in the practice so far related to the LGBT rights violations, and exchange good practices in order to recognize and classify these violations in efficient implementation of Law on Prohibition of Discrimination and criminal codes.
This training is one of the target trainings for actors in sectors of justice, interior, education and health focused on raising the level of knowledge and participation of relevant institutions in the protection of LGBT rights which will contribute to better protection of LGBT persons from discrimination and hate crime, and diminish homophobia in the BH society. Public servants, who understand the problems of violence and unequal treatment of LGBT persons, in the intertwined sectors of interior and judiciary are an important link in the institutional and social acceptance and protection of LGBT persons through the legal system.
Topics which will be presented by local and regional legal experts on discrimination and hate crime on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity are: LGBT terminology, prejudice and stereotypes towards LGBT persons, sexual orientation and gender identity in national legislature, discrimination and criminal acts motivated by prejudice on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity, and good legal practices from the region.
