For the first time: BiH Parliament discusses LGBT rights
The Joint Committee on Human Rights of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina is organizing a special thematic session that will be held on 19th of May, 2015. in the Parliament building (room 1/I) starting at noon (12PM). The session is being organized on the occasion of 17th of May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Bi-phobia and Transphobia – IDAHOT 2015.
Representatives invited at this session include: representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly, representatives of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees, Ministry of Civil Affairs and Ministry of Justice), the Institution of Ombudsman for Human Rights in BiH, National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, Parliament of the Federation of BiH, Assembly of Brcko District, Council of Europe in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, UNDP, as well as many other non-governmental and international organizations operating in our country.
The topic of this special session has a focus on human rights of LGBT people and the problems and issues LGBT people are facing on everyday basis. This session aims to create a space for open dialogue with the Institutions that are indispensable allies in creating democratic BiH society, free of discrimination and prejudice.
During this special session, Sarajevo Open Centre will present its Annual report on human rights of LGBT people in BiH – Pink report 2014.
This is the first time ever that the Parliamentary Assembly organizes thematic session that is completely devoted to the rights of LGBT people.
We strongly believe that that cooperation between the Sarajevo Open Centre with institutions at all governmental levels in BiH, will pave the way for concrete changes for the better, when it comes to LGBT people.
