WikigapBiH Edit-a-Thon, Sarajevo, Wednesday 7 March 2018

The goal of the #wikigap global campaign Sarajevo edition is to close the gap between the number of women and men from Bosnia and Herzegovina represented on Wikipedia, as well as to motivate and offer practical knowledge to women and girls on how to create and edit Wikipedia.

On the occasion of the 8 March, International Women’s Day, Sarajevo Open Centre will organise Edit-a-thon, in Networks, in cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden to Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), during which 15 volunteers, activists, women and men from public life, will create and edit Wikipedia with content on prominent BiH women.

This event will also gather women (and men) from different spheres of public and professional work: politics, culture, sports, arts, activism, and will be a chance for socializing and exchanging ideas on increasing the visibility of women who significantly contributed to BH society.

Currently, there are 4x more articles about men than women on Wikipedia, and 9 in 10 editors are men. We aim to contribute to narrowing and closing this gender gap by raising the number of women represented virtually.

We invite all the women and girls to create content on Wikipedia on women from Bosnia and Herzegovina who significantly contributed to BH society through the public and professional engagement, women in science, arts, politics, sports, culture… You can do this right now from home, and this engagement is not necessarily related to the event to be held on 7 March.

More information about different ways to engage in this campaign is available at this link.

*This list is a work in progress. If you have any suggestions on women who should be added to this list, you can add them yourself. In case you don’t know how, please let us know, and we’ll do it for you.
