2012-2014: 30 Documented Discrimination Cases on Grounds of SOGI, Real Numbers Much Higher
Sarajevo Open Centre replied to the BiH Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees on May 27, 2015, and submitted statistical data on the discrimination cases on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity, documented since 2012 until May 21, 2015. Data on structural discrimination , and relevant statistical data collected through public opinion poll on homosexuality and transgender and the needs and problems assessment of LGBT community in BiH, both done in 2013 was also submitted.
From October 1, 2012 until December 31 2014, Sarajevo Open Centre documented 30 cases of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and/or gender identity. These cases reveal that LGBT people are faced with incitement to discrimination in media, service providing, education and as voluntary blood donors.
On May 11, 2015, BiH Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees sent a request to Sarajevo Open Centre, BiH High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, BiH Constitutional Court, BiH Agency for Gender Equality and entity Gender Centres, and BiH Institution of Ombudsman for Human Rights in order to gather statistical data on discrimination on the grounds of sex/gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, among other grounds. The collected data are done as a part of Ministry’s activities related to the production of the Human Rights Report in BiH 2012-2014, to be reported to the BiH Council of Ministers.
