What can we expect from the first module of the Equality Academy?
By launching Equality Academy, Friedrich Ebert Foundation and Sarajevo Open Centre are trying to make a new platform for political leadership and space for joint action of representatives, leaders of political parties and civil society organizations.
First module of Equality Academy starts on 22 May in Sarajevo. Orlando Fusco will speak at its opening. Theme of this module is BiH: The most complex political system? Module is consisted from lectures, workshops, discussions and meetings with members of civil society organizations. Focus of this module will be on the most important characteristics of our political system, observed through the gender equality prism. This module will be moderated by Duška Jurišić. In this module we will discuss about:
-New European initiative: Expected reforms
-Political system of BiH: What do we need to fix?
-Gender equality in Dayton framework
-Elections: legislative, process, institutions
-Elections and gender equality
-What kind of change do we want?
-Gender equality policies
Within this module there will be a discussion on Gender equality subject. Members of civil society will present their work to the participants of Equality Academy, and they will discuss about the most important issues and problems that women are facing.
Lecturers on this module will be Adis Arapović, Emina Abrahamsdotter, Irena Hadžiabdić, Gordana Sobol, Dženana Alđuz, Adnan Kadribašić, representatives of Bosnian NGOs, political parties, media and academia.
Goals of the Equality Academy are to strengthening the capacities of political leaders in gender equality area and equality policies of underprivileged groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in order to enhance rights of citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina and to strenghten the cooperation between decision makers and representatives of civil society organizations in BiH.
Participants of Equality Academy are representatives of Parliaments on cantonal, entity and state level, members of party organs of parliament parties, advisors of political leaders and Ministers on cantonal, entity or state level, who are interested in strengthening their capacities and in identification and implementation of concrete solutions in order to improve gender equality and position of underprivileged groups in our society.
