We Held Three Events on the Topic of Politics and the Rights of LGBTIQ+ People

In September, in anticipation of the 2024 local elections, we actively addressed the issue of politics and the rights of LGBTIQ persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In addition to presenting the online resource imaizac.ba, a presentation of two studies was also held: ”Research on the Attitudes of LGBTIQ+ People About Political Parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, authored by Anes Hodžić, and ”Research on the Attitudes of Political Parties on the Human Rights of LGBTI People in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, authored by Lejla Selmanović.

To empower LGBTIQ people to actively participate in political processes and contribute to building a fairer society, we also held political activism training for LGBTIQ+ people. Over two days and with eight lecturers, the training participants learned about the political system of BiH and the role of LGBTIQ+ persons in it, discussed discrimination and protection mechanisms, got acquainted with a detailed overview of election processes and learned about media and information literacy.

The last event was intended to open a conversation between politicians and the LGBTIQ community. We gathered politicians from different parties: Sabina Ćudić and Faris Šehović from Naša stranka, Vedrana Vujović from the Demokratska fronta and Denis Challenger from the SDP, who together with representatives of civil society had the opportunity to discuss concrete steps towards improving the position of marginalized groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
