Two Men Sentenced to a Total of Five Years in Prison for Robbery of Gay Men

The Municipal Court in Sarajevo sentenced Irfan Mulalić to a single sentence of four years and Ishak Bilal to one year in prison because they committed crimes of robbery and blackmail against members of the LGBTIQ community on several occasions in October last year. One of the perpetrators contacted three men through an application for dating gay and bisexual men. After arranging a meeting with them in different apartments in the area of Sarajevo, immediately upon arrival he would threaten them because of their sexual orientation and demand money with blows, threats with a gun, curses, and insults. He took credit card pin codes from the victims, from which he withdrew money.

The police and the prosecutor’s office reacted after users of our legal advice for LGBTI persons reported cases, so we encourage you to contact us if you have experienced violence, threats, or any other form of hate crime, or discrimination because of your LGBTI identity.
