Public Opinion Survey on Abortion Services in the Healthcare System in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Pregnancy termination is a complex topic in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is often in the focus of intense social, political, legal, medical and ethical discussions. Recognising the need for empirically based data, this survey was designed with the intention of creating a clear and full picture of the availability of this medical service and the public attitude towards it.

A combined, three-step methodological approach to the survey was applied. The first step included desk research of available literature, the second was a quantitative survey on general population sample in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the third step included a qualitative survey through online focus groups.

We hope that the survey results will be of use to the health sector, civil society organisations that advocate for the improvement of sexual and reproductive health and access to rights such as family planning, the media, other institutions in BiH, as well as the general public, in getting a clear and realistic picture of the availability and practice of abortion in the country.
