New project announcement: November 2013, groundbreaking documentary play SEVEN on tour across Bosnia and Herzegovina
Sarajevo Open Centre in cooperation with Civil Rights Defenders, Hedda Produktion AB and the Embassy of Sweden announces the theatrical reading of the documentary play SEVEN to be performed in Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka, from November 5th-7th 2013 as a part of the regional tour across the Western Balkans countries.
SEVEN is a groundbreaking documentary play based on Interviews with seven women’s rights activists from around the world, whose difficult life stories and struggle are a sorce of inspiration: Farida Azizi (Afghanistan), Inez McCormack (Northern Ireland), Marina Pisklakova-Parker (Russia), Annabella de Leon (Guatemala), Mukhtar Mai (Pakistan), Mu Sochua (Cambodia) and Hafsat Abiola (Nigeria). At each venue the play is performed by a unique ensemble of prominent persons representing different aspects of society. In BH artists, politicians, entreprenurs and journalists will step onto the theatre stage to portray the activists in the play. Their names are to be announced.

The tour of theatrical readings of SEVEN was initiated in 2008 by playwright and producer Hedda Krausz Sjögren. The tour has reached 13 countries to date, reaching over 20.000 people, from Sweden to Afghanistan. Over 500 persons, both men and women, including several ministers, members of the European Parliament, artists, and the Academy award winning actress Merly Streep has performed in the play.
The performances in Bosnia Hezegovina will be followed by activities to raise awareness for the struggle against gender based violence and struggle for the protection of women’s rights.
Based on interviews conducted in 2007, the play was created by seven award-winning playwrights: Paula Cizmar, Catherine Filloux, Gail Kriegel, Carol K. Mack, Ruth Margraff, Anna Deveare-Smith and Susan Yankowitz.
The regional tour of SEVEN 2013, supported by the Swedish Institute, also includes performances in Albania , Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Kosovo and Serbia.
The Bosnian tour is being implemented by Sarajevo Open Centre, the Embassy of Sweden in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Civil Rights Defenders.
