Initiative for the harmonization of the Law on Local Self-Government of Bosnian-Podrinje Canton with Gender Equality Law BiH
SOC has launched another initiative for protection of women’s rights and ensuring the integration of gender equality at local level. Last week, we have sent a letter to the Ministry of Justice, Administration and Labour Relations of the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton Goražde, specifically to the Minister Radmila Janković, with proposals to amend the draft of the Law on local self-government of Bosnian-Podrinje Canton Goražde, which was created last year and intends to bring it in line with the Gender Equality Law BiH.
Gender equality is a political objective, and the integration of a gender perspective is a political means to achieve this objective. Integrating a gender perspective requires a systemic approach, which means that the principles of gender equality must be woven into the basic social and state institutions as well as the normative framework that regulates the functioning of the whole system.
The copy of the letter was also sent to the Chair of the Assembly of Bosnian-Podrinje Canton Goražde Aida Obuća, Gender Equality Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Gender Center of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and to the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
