Call for Applications: Training Human Rights do not Recognize Political Ideology, Sarajevo, December 4-5, 2015
Sarajevo Open Centre is organizing a training called Human Rights do not Recognize Political Ideology, intended for members of political parties who reside in Sarajevo or East Sarajevo. During the training, regional and local experts will present current state of human rights of LGBT persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina, focusing on good regional practices and politics which are improving the position of this marginalized group. The training will be held on 4th and 5th of December, in Sarajevo. The deadline for applying is December 1st.
Why should you apply for the training?
The issue of human rights of LGBT persons ceased to be question of political ideology and in reality, rights of LGBT persons have found their way on agendas of all political parties, from the extreme right wing to the extreme left wing parties.
Sarajevo Open Centre has, in its work so far, monitored the work of political parties and their attitude towards the LGBT persons as a marginalized group in our society. Apart from notable progress and increased openness of political parties to work on this issue, if compared with their position on this subject few years earlier, there is still a lot of room for improvement. Most of all, there is evident lack of information on this issue as well as lack of awareness about the need of defining and incorporating LGBT-sensitive politics in their agendas and political documents. Therefore, Sarajevo Open Centre intends to provide aforementioned training sessions timely to the members of political parties with special focus to the subject of same-sex partnerships, process of sex change and issue of violence and discrimination towards LGBT persons.
