Conference for the Upcoming International Women’s Day: „From the Perspective of Victims to the Institutional Response“
Sarajevo Open Centre invites you to the conference ”From the Perspective of Victims to the Institutional Response“, which will be held on March 04, 2022 (Friday) beginning at 10:00h at hotel Courtyard by Marriott in Sarajevo, Skenderija 1.
By launching the Facebook page Nisam tražila at the end of 2020, which was dedicated to all women who have experienced some form of sexual violence, BiH’s #MeToo Movement has started. Their testimonials gave visibility to problems women face every day, which are the consequence of a patriarchal society and system built to provide victims little or no protection at all, as evidenced by 56 women killed between 2015 and 2021. These murders were perpetrated by men who felt they were losing their gender role, their power. With each new case, we ask where the system made mistake, why nothing has been done to protect the victim, even though in most of these cases the perpetrator has already been reported for threats and violence.
For these reasons we decided to organise a conference on the subject of sexual violence, to detect what are the problems and what we as a society, civil society organisations and institutions can do to tell all our citizens that the system is there for them and that they can trust it.
Please confirm your attendance at the conference by sending an email to [email protected] by March 04 (Wednesday) at 16:00h latest. Number of participants is limited.
