IDAHOBIT 2021 Celebration Program: “Together: Resisting, Supporting, Healing!”
The International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) has been celebrated since 2004 to draw attention to the stigmatization, violence, and discrimination faced by lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, and intersex individuals, as well as people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and sex characteristics that are not hetero and cisnormative.
IDAHOBIT Day, May 17, commemorates the date in 1990 when the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the list of mental disorders, and it has served as a reminder of the importance of respecting the human rights of LGBTIQ persons worldwide. It is also an occasion to organize various actions to draw attention to the discrimination and violence that this community continues to face.
The global theme of this year’s IDAHOBIT is “Together: Resisting, Supporting, Healing!” and it was chosen in light of all the hardships we have endured over the last year.
As every year, the Sarajevo Open Centre dedicates the month of May to fighting homophobia and raising awareness of the existence of LGBTIQ persons in our society, and we organize a series of events for the LGBTIQ community and the general public.
The program for this year’s IDAHOBIT in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which includes not only our activities but also those of other LGBTIQ organizations and informal groups, can be downloaded here.
We welcome all LGBTIQ persons, as well as everyone else who is interested, to sign up for our events and celebrate the Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia.
