Announcement of the analysis of needs assessment of LGBT persons in BiH
The first part of the LGBT community needs and problems assessment in BiH is finished. Five hundred and fifty persons have filled out the questionnaire. By the end of July, we will publish a detailed descriptional-statistical analysis of the assessments’ results with concrete recommendations for the institutions.
Sarajevo Open Centre has been working on the needs and problems assessment of the LGBT community from March until the mid May. This research is funded by Open Society Fund. The main goal of this research is to determine the real problems and assess concrete needs of the LGBT persons in BiH to work with precise data on solving these problems through concrete work with the state and other institutions (through advocacy, education, meetings and etc) which have been proven to discriminate LGBT persons, don’t do their job in accordance with professional ethics or in any other way do not stop the politics of selective protection of human rights. The assessment of real needs and problems will result from analysis of 550 questionnaires, filled by LGBTTIQ persons from BiH.
By the end of July this year, we will publish a detail descriptional-statistical analysis of the data we hav collected. In this research, we have given special emphasis to smaller communities in the state and our researchers have collected data from more than 30 communities in BiH, beside larger centres: Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Tuzla, Bihać, Mostar and Zenica. The report on the results of the research and the recommendation will be used as a platform for further advocacy of concrete changes for the benefit of LGBT persons in areas of health, police, judiciary, political participation, and general empowerment of the LGBT community and culture in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
