Report presentation and discussion
EQUALITY NOW!
The current state on human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGBTI) people and
priorities for 2016
Tuesday, May 17th 2016. 12-14h
Sarajevo, Mediacentar, Kolodvorska 3
Since 2005, May 17 has been marked as the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia. This day is marked in more than 130 countries in the world, and officially recognized by many countries and institutions, including the European Parliament. On May 17 1990, World Health Organisation (WHO) abolished homosexuality as a mental illness from its list of diseases and health problems. Since then, this day has been marked as a reminder of the importance of LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans* and intersex) human rights all over the world. It is also a cause for many different actions, which point to the discrimination and violence faced by this group.
On this occasion and as part of the LGBTI Equality Month in BiH, the Sarajevo Open Centre is organizing a report presentation and discussion. Spring 2015 has announced new approaches and relations of the Entity and State parliaments and governments towards the advancement of the legislative and public policy framework for the protection of LGBTI rights. At this presentation, we will also propose steps, which need to be taken in 2016 in order to transfer the existing good will into concrete measures that will lead to a better life of LGBTI people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Speakers will be:
