General elections 2014 which will be dedicated to the amendments to the Election Law of BiH concerning the issue of participation of women and men on the electoral lists, which were adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly in March 2013.

This topic was not properly discussed in the past few months. Amendments to the Election Law of BiH provide increase of the “women’s quota” from 30% to 40%, thus provide a possibility for greater participation of women in decision-making positions. As the political practice shows, a number of women is being elected to parliaments at different levels, but still these parliaments rarely elect women in the governments. For example, we are witnessing that there is no female ministers at all in the Council of Ministers of BiH, and that there is only one female minister out of 16 ministries at the federal Government.

Sasa Gavric will moderate the discussion, which will unfold topics related to gender equality in the context of political participation, along with parliamentarians from different levels of government: Besima Boric (the House of Representatives of the Parliament of FBiH, SDP BiH), Ismeta Dervoz (the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, SBB BiH), Katica Cerkez (the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the FBiH, HDZ BiH) and Segmedina Srna (the Assembly of the Sarajevo Canton and the House of Peoples of the Parliament of FBiH, SDP BiH).

Discussion will be held in Bosnian / Croatian / Serbian Language.
English translation is unfortunately not provided.

Sarajevo Open Centre hereby invites you to participate in a discussion HOW TO REACH 40% OF WOMEN IN GOVERNMENTS?
