{"id":5422,"date":"2014-05-15T11:28:18","date_gmt":"2014-05-15T11:28:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/soc.ba\/?p=5422"},"modified":"2014-05-15T11:28:18","modified_gmt":"2014-05-15T11:28:18","slug":"kiss-and-let-other-kiss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/soc.ba\/en\/kiss-and-let-other-kiss\/","title":{"rendered":"Kiss and Let Other Kiss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive alignleft \" src=\"http:\/\/soc.ba\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/diskusija.jpg\" alt=\"diskusija\" \/>A panel discussion on homophobia in the media was held yesterday at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.media.ba\/en\">Mediacenter Sarajevo<\/a> as a part of the program on <a href=\"http:\/\/dayagainsthomophobia.org\/\">the International day against homophobia and transphobia<\/a> (IDAHOT).<\/p> <p>The discussion was a part of the USAID project \u201cStrengthening independent media\u201d. A map of the recorded instances of violence against LGBT persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia \u2013 <em>Homophobia kills<\/em> \u2013 co-produced by <a href=\"http:\/\/gsa.org.rs\/\">Gej strejt alijansa<\/a> (Serbia), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kontra.hr\/cms\/\">Kontra<\/a> (Croatia) and <a href=\"http:\/\/soc.ba\/#&amp;panel1-2\">Sarajevo Open Centre <\/a>(BiH) was also presented.<\/p> <p><strong>Steve Mayors<\/strong>, the director of the program division of USAID BiH gave the opening speech in which he referenced his personal experiences when talking about the struggles that the LGBT population faces. He also invited everyone to join him at the square in front of the Importanne Center on Friday, at 9pm, to witness the rainbow-colored transformation of the US embassy. <strong>Andy McGuffie<\/strong>, the chief spokesperson at the EU Delegation spoke next and expressed his disapproval of the attacks at the Merlinka Festival on Febryary 1<sup>st<\/sup>. He also set out the legal framework and guidelines for the protection of LGBT rights at the EU level and expressed the need for better systematization of data and better data collection when it comes to crimes committed against LGBT persons. He also praised the work done by the civil society organizations, particularly the \u201cComing out\u201d project co-run by the <a href=\"http:\/\/ba.boell.org\/bs\">Heinrich B\u00f6ll Foundation in BiH<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fondacijacure.org\/\">CURE<\/a> and Sarajevo Open Center.<\/p> <p>The second part of the discussion was moderated by <strong>Aleksandar Trifunovi\u0107<\/strong>, the editor of the online magazine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.6yka.com\/\">www.6yka.com<\/a>, and the participants were <strong>Emina Bo\u0161njak<\/strong> from Sarajevo Open Center, <strong>Belma \u017diga<\/strong>, a psychologist from Krila nade BiH, <strong>V<strong>alentina Pelizzer<\/strong><\/strong>, an activist from One World SEE, <strong>Du\u0161ka Juri\u0161i\u0107<\/strong>, a journalist and an editor at FTV and<strong> Vesna Andree Zaimovi\u0107 an editor of the online portals <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.radiosarajevo.ba\/\">www.radiosarajevo.ba<\/a> i <a href=\"http:\/\/www.manjine.ba\/\">www.manjine.ba<\/a>.<\/p> <p>After their introductory remarks there was a dynamic discussion about changing the attitudes of the \u201csilent majority\u201d from hostility and animosity, to, at the very least apathy. The moderator, <strong>Aleksandar Trifunovi\u0107<\/strong> asked those present to watch the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=A98E8sEvum4\">Protect every kiss<\/a> video which sends the message that there should be no violence against kisses.
