The International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) has been celebrated since 2004 to draw attention to the stigmatization, violence, and discrimination faced by lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, and intersex individuals, as well as people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and sex characteristics that are not hetero and cisnormative.<\/p>
IDAHOBIT Day, May 17, commemorates the date in 1990 when the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the list of mental disorders, and it has served as a reminder of the importance of respecting the human rights of LGBTIQ persons worldwide. It is also an occasion to organize various actions to draw attention to the discrimination and violence that this community continues to face.<\/p>
