Gender Sensitive Language in the Parliament of the Federation of BiH

The Initiative for introducing gender sensitive language in the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was adopted on the 19th session of the House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament. 70 MPs voted affirmatively for this Initiative. The Initiative is a product of joint collaboration of Sarajevo Open Centre, Foundation Friedrich Ebert and Committee on Gender Equality of the House of Representatives of the FBIH Parliament. Jasna Duraković, the president of the Committee proposed this Initiative.

Further work on this issue will be related to amendments to the Unified Rules for legislation drafting in the FBiH Parliament. The amendments will be created regarding the instructions of expert of linguists. In order to ultimately use  gender sensitive language in the Parliament of the Federation of BiH and to end discrimination against women in this regard, linguist will pay attention to the gender sensitive language in drafting legal regulations, rules of procedure, in official communication, internal acts and materials.
