Academy of Political Leadership

Sarajevo Open Center, supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is setting up the first Academy of Political Leadership which will be held June 29- July 5 at Hotel Hayat, Abdesthana 27, in Sarajevo.

The aim of the first Academy of Political Leadership is to improve the capacities of young people by affirming their leadership skills and strengthening their participation in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s political life. Participants of the Academy are members of different parties from Bosnia and Herzegovina such as: Democratic National Union (DNZ), Democratic Party (DP), the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), the Croatian Democratic Union 1990 (HDZ 1990), Peoples Democratic Party (NDS), the People’s Party work for Progress (NSRZB) Our Party (NS), New Socialist Party (NSP), the Party of Democratic Progress (PDP), the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), Alliance for a Better Future (SBBBiH), Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Socialist Party (SP), the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS), the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), Party for BiH (SBiH), and from several associations: the Association of students of the Faculty of Political sciences in Sarajevo, Atlantic Initiative, CULT, Sumer, Living Youth Association, the Council of young people from Mostar.

They will have an opportunity to meet eminent politicians, both from executive and legislative branch of Bosnia’s government and governments from other European countries. Lecturers will be from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary and Serbia, and they all have years of academic, political and social work experience. Academy of Political Leadership is going to last for 7 days covering topics concerning BH political system, human rights, constitutional reform, public finance, local government, elections, education, media, the Euro-Atlantic Integration and leadership skills. A discussion called ‘Where the Women in Politics’ are will be held 2 July at 8 pm at Stari Grad Municipality’s Hall, as a part of the Academy. Lecturers include: Ismeta Dervoz, SBBBiH, Member of Parliament of Bosnia nad Herzegovina, Lilja Zovko, HDZ BiH, Member of Parliament of Bosnia nad Herzegovina, Denis Sarajlić-Maglić, SDP, Deputy Minister of Civil Affairs. Discussion will be moderated by Saša Madacki, Human Rights Center of University of Sarajevo.
